John Vincent Atanasoff Family/UpbringingJohn Vincent Atanasoff was born on October 4, 1903 in Hamilton, New York, US. His Father was a Bulgarian immigrant named Ivan Atanasoff and His mother was Lucena Purdy who was an English teacher in New York. After John was born his family moved to Florida and it was there John got his grade school education as he graduated with his High School diploma at the age of 15.

Contribution to Computer Tech After John Atanasoff graduated from the electrical engineering program with strait A's at the University of Florida when he was 22 he took a train to Ames, Iowa where he went to Iowa State College. After receiving his masters in 1926 while attending Iowa State John moved to Wisconsin and received a PhD. In 1930 John returned to Iowa State to begin his work. After years of work, and the help of Clifford E Berry, John, who was frustrated with his work went on a drive to try to clear his mind. After a while he stopped at a roadhouse and got a drink of bourbon, and it was then when he started to think how he was going to build his machine, Features included: use electricity to improve speed, using base-2 (also known as the binary number system) to improve and simplify the machines computational process, using regenerative memory to reduce building cost, and finally it would compute with direct logical action to improve accuracy. All these features were noted down on a cocktail napkin. After two years of work and a $650 grant from Iowa State college John Vincent Atanasoff and Clifford E. Berry finished there computer in 1941 this computer is known as the Atanasoff Berry Computer or ABC. The Anatasoff Berry Computer was the first electronic computer.
